Parent Connect FAQ
A quick access guide
to use Parent Connect is available.
1) I can't log on.
Answer: Cookies must be enabled to use Parent Connect.
2) I don't see all my student's assignments.
Answer:
* Make sure that you choose to look at assignments for the
month or whole school year.
* Teachers do not update assignments every day. Often grade
recording occurs on the weekend due to a heavy work load.
3) I'm not getting e-mail notification of missing assignments
Answer: The teacher may not be entering an I to indicate
incomplete. Often the teachers will assign a 0 until
the assignment is completed. You might want to ask your
student to clarify the teacher's procedures.
4) I got an incorrect tardy or absence notification.
Answer: We have found out the reason why tardies are listed one class
period off and we're working with
ParentConnect to resolve the problem. The reason
has to do with listing Advisory as Period 0 while Parent
Connect considers it as Period 1 since it is the first
column in our records.
5) I don't see upcoming assignments.
Answer: Some but not all staff are posting upcoming assignments.
Lesson planning is volatile so expect inconsistencies with this. We have asked
the faculty to post upcoming tests and major projects.
6) I don't see current grades.
Answer: Click on the Assignments link then choose Schedule.
7) The grade seems to be incorrect.
Answer: Some teachers use a weighted calculation method to arrive at
cumulative grades. If you are adding up the points received and dividing by the
points possible, you are using the total points calculation method. Please
contact the specific teacher to clarify his/her method.
8) I received a failure notice but my student was on a field trip the day the
assignment was due.
Answer: A lot of teachers use a * to flag a missing
assignment. You will see a zero. A zero is temporarily given until the assignment is turned in. This
procedure has the benefit of identifying the incomplete assignment without
giving a elevated grade when an assignment is left blank (and consequently not
calculated in the overall grade.)
9) I followed the instructions for finding the GPA/ranking, but the
information was not available.
Answer: At this time, Parent Connect does not handle GPA
properly for our
environment since we have a weighted system (certain classes are weighted such as
AP courses). Since the info would be
inaccurate, we have disabled GPA.
10) What schools offer Parent Connect?
Answer: As of April, 2002 all schools offer Parent Connect.
11) How do I add students to my existing account?
Answer: Send an e-mail with
your name, your student(s) name, school and grade.
12) I have a question about my student's attendance (tardies/absences). Who should I call?
We have listed Attendance Secretaries at each site. They can assist you in addition to contacting your teacher.
